Professor Mario is regarded as a leading international competitor in Brazilian gi and no-gi competitions. He is known for his modern training methods, technical knowledge, and attention to detail.

Professor Mario was born in Brazil and has trained in Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since childhood. He earned his Brown Belt under Rickson Gracie and his Black Belt under Ryan Gracie.

In 2004, he emigrated to Syndey where he established his own Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu organisation. Originally named Gracie Oceania to honour his late teacher, Ryan Gracie, the organisation has since evolved to become myBJJ.

Professor Mario's has shaped myBJJ into a modern, professional form of Jiu-Jitsu with a number of key facets:

  • to provide quality tuition to students;
  • to set and maintain a high technical standard in both self-defence and competitive Jiu-Jitsu;
  • to develop quality competitors and instructors; and to promote and develop the art of Jiu-Jitsu in general.

Professor Mario is widely travelled and regularly competes in competitions around the world. During these travels he has forged good friendships with many of the world's leading Jiu-Jitsu competitors and instructors. His Sydney headquarters often hosts seminars by these world-renowned practitioners.

When not competing, Professor Mario teaches at his headquarters in Sydney as well as visiting the various myBJJ branches throughout Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and the United States.
